Panthers edged by Denmark
The Oconto Falls High School softball team lost to Denmark 17-13 in a Bay Conference game April 22 at Denmark.
The Panthers (2-3, 2-3 Bay Conference) led 4-2 after two, but Denmark (4-5-1, 1-4-1 Bay) pulled ahead 8-5 at the end of four. Oconto Falls scored five runs in the fifth, but Denmark answered with eight runs in the bottom of the inning.
McKenna Kussow took the loss. She pitched six innings, allowing 17 runs on 15 hits with seven walks and three strikeouts. Junior McKenna Holman accounted for four of Oconto Falls’ 16 hits. Sabrina Braiser went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles.
Leah Hansen took the win for Denmark.
Tigers lose to Niagara
The Gillett Secondary School baseball team lost to Niagara 3-1 in a Marinette & Oconto Conference game April 22 in Niagara.
Brian Zahn took the loss for Gillett (0-2, 0-2 M&O). He pitched six innings, struck out eight, walked two and allowed three runs on five hits. Bryce Cibulka led the Tigers at the plate, going 2 for 3.
Huntor Kaldor earned the win for Niagara (1-1, 1-1) with a complete game, striking out five and allowing one run on five hits. He walked two batters.
Panthers 8th at Thunder Invite
The Oconto Falls High School boys golf team took eighth Saturday at the Thunder Invitational at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Seymour.
The Panthers scored 370 points. Pulaski (324) won the meet.
Jacob Stoinski led Oconto Falls with an 86. Kyle Fiedler carded a 95. James Salschieder and Jordan Koppa each had 99.
Suring girls 6th, boys 5th
The Suring High School boys track and field team finished fifth and the girls sixth Friday at the Rosholt Invitational.
John Christensen and Creo Vanbellinger won the high jump, each logging 5-foot-6 jumps, for Suring.
Katie Stegeman led the Suring girls with a second-place finish in the high jump. Her jump was 5-0.
Peshtigo won the boys meet. Edgar won the girls meet.
