Oconto County will consider five proposals for the design of a law enforcement center in Oconto.
The county’s Law Enforcement and Public Property committees will review the proposals on May 7 and conduct interviews with the top firms on May 16. County supervisors are scheduled to choose a design firm on June 19.
According to Administrative Coordinator Kevin Hamann, the center will take about a year to design.
Those submitting proposals are Mead & Hunt, of Green Bay, Venture Architects, of Milwaukee, Strollo, of Orlando, Fla., Somerville, of Green Bay, and Potter Lawson, of Madison. The county budgeted $1.3 million for the work, and the proposals ranged from $1.2 million to $1.6 million, according to Hamann.
The law enforcement center is scheduled to be built on a 4.7-acre block north of the courthouse. It would replace an outdated facility in the courthouse complex that needs major repairs and has limited capacity. Construction of the $25 million center is scheduled to begin in 2015.
The County Board on Thursday amended its contract with the acquisition firm SRF Consulting of Madison after the county learned of two additional relocations for SRF to manage. The original contract was based on 20 relocations for the properties located north of the courthouse for a cost of $170,065. With the added relocations, the cost increased to $182,052.
The board also approved an amendment to rezone the land for the proposed law enforcement center from residential to downtown commercial.
