A parenting workshop will take place this fall at Abrams Elementary School. Parents and caregivers of children from 4 to 7 years old are invited to the Raising a Thinking Child workshop.
Participants will learn the discipline ladder and word pairs to build a vocabulary for problem solving. The workbook includes activities and games to make learning to problem solve fun for children and caregivers.
The program will also help shy children become more assertive and help impulsive children cope with frustration. The skills children learn through this program can prevent and reduce early behaviors that predict later problems such as violence, substance abuse and depression.
The workshop takes place from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 30 to Nov. 18. A complimentary family dinner will be provided on Sept. 30 and Nov. 18.
Registration is limited and due by Sept. 22. Cost is $15, and financial assistance is available. Youths ages 4-7 are invited to take part. Free child care will be available for younger children of participants.
