A two-week infant massage workshop will take place from 4-5 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 1 and 8, at the Suring Area Public Library Learning Center.
The free workshop is intended for adult caregivers and babies 1 to 12 months old. The Oconto County Parenting Resource Center will host the program, led by instructor Julie Raasch, Oconto County University of Wisconsin-Extension healthy babies support worker and certified infant massage instructor.
Parents will be taught massage techniques that help them establish closer bonds with their babies.
“Massage is a wonderful way to encourage early bonding of parents and their infants and is very helpful in relieving colic and other infant stress symptoms,” Raasch said.
Massage techniques can lead to improved early brain development and early bonding and relieve colic or other signs of infant stress. Child development research indicates that infant massage taught to parents and adult caregivers by a certified instructor has positive outcomes.
