The Machickanee Players’ 32nd season includes a ghost play, an edge-of-your-seat drama and a local author’s comedy.
The season will open with “The Woman in Black,” a ghost play adapted by Stephen Mallatratt from the book by Susan Hill. Arthur Kipps, a lawyer, rents a theater and hires a professional actor to help him re-enact a ghostly event that happened many years ago—with horrifyingly tragic results. This play unleashes a macabre sequence of events that ends with a chilling twist.
The show, directed by Tammie McCarthy and Heidi Reed, will be presented Oct. 24, 25, 26 and 31, and Nov. 1 and 2.
The drama “Lizzie Borden of Fall River,” written by Tim Kelly and directed by Heidi Reed, will be performed from Feb. 13-15 and Feb. 20-22. Did Lizzie Borden dispatch her father and stepmother with an axe one fateful August morning, or was she the innocent victim of circumstances? The play takes place in the Borden residence, and all the characters are somehow involved with the tragedy.
Local playwright Kathy Campshure’s play, “Thanksgiving on Serendipity Lane,” will be staged from May 1-3 and May 8-10, including matinee and evening performances May 9. In this comedy, George and Jane get settled into their new house on Serendipity Lane and invite the family to celebrate Thanksgiving. But when Jane asks each family member to share a serendipitous event from their lives, she gets more than she expected. This comedy will be directed by the author.
An added feature of the new season will be the admission of walk-ins on the evenings of dinner shows, following the meal. The theater will open at 7:45 p.m. on the dates of the dinner shows and admit people until the hall is at capacity.
