Burt A. Whitlow

Burt A. Whitlow, 84, Lena, died Thursday afternoon, Oct. 30, 2014, at the Woodlands of Oconto, following complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He was born Dec. 15, 1929, in Duncan, Oklahoma, to Wilfred and Elizabeth (Davis) Whitlow. When he was 18 years old, Burt moved to West Allis to live with family and moved to Oconto County in 1970. On Nov. 17, 1970, he married Lorna Zimmerman in Alabama. Burt lived in Oconto County for most of his life. He was employed at Oconto Electric Co-op for over 30 years. Burt was also an avid golfer who enjoyed his usual foursome outings at Pine Acres beginning in early spring and lasting until very late fall. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Abrams, where he once ushered. Survivors are his wife of 44 years, Lorna Whitlow, Lena; their four children, Mike (Diane) Whitlow, Springfield, Missouri, Linda Gonzales, Decatur, Illinois, Nancy Whitlow, Houston, Texas, Debbie (Steve) Franklin, Strathmore, California; three stepsons, Scott and Keith Zimmerman, both of Oconomowoc, Randy (Vicki) Zimmerman, Lake Mills; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leo (Glenna) Whitlow, Duncan, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Ruth Lee, in August 2013; and one son, Allan Whitlow, in November 2013. Visitation with the urn present will take place from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Calvary Lutheran Church, 5716 Main St., Abrams. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Andrew DeGier officiating. Burial will take place Thursday in St. Patrick Cemetery, Stiles. Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls is serving the Whitlow family. The Whitlow family requests no flowers and that memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Hospice Advantage.
