Shirley Ann Lisowe-Beaumia, 82, Oconto Falls, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 2, 2014, at St. Clare Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born Sept. 27, 1932, in Stiles to George and Philomene (Gegare) Tappa. Shirley grew up in the Stiles area where she attended country school.
On May 13, 1950, she married Mathew Lisowe in Lena. Following their marriage the couple lived in Suamico and Stiles before moving to Oconto Falls. Her husband, Mathew, preceded her in death very suddenly on Sept. 14, 1967.
Besides being left alone and Shirley having to raise her large family, she began working for Soulek Interiors, Mr. Alberts and helped her friends Josie Bitters and Betty Young with their catering business. She also worked at the Penguin Restaurant in Oconto Falls and babysat in her home for many area families and became lovingly known as “Grandma Shirley.”
On April 23, 1972, she married Robert “Plumbob” Beaumia, and they enjoyed many happy years together before he preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 2013.
Shirley was a longtime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the altar rosary society.
Survivors are her six children, Tim (Jean) Lisowe, Sue Lisowe and Mary McDermid, all of Oconto Falls; Kathy (Dale) Klosterman, Gillett; John Lisowe, Oconto Falls; Dave (Becky) Beaumia, Luxemburg; 12 grandchildren, Rebecca (Kenny) Behnke, Amy (Troy) Brehmer and Courtney (Keaton) Kazik; Steven (fiancé Lindsey Feldt) McDermid, Julie (Jason) Kardoskee, Mathew (Brittney Steiner) McDermid and Jenny (Chris) Stahl; Jason, Kimberly and Sean Klosterman; Eli and Aubrey Beaumia; four great-grandchildren, Mathew and Addyson Behnke, Trace and Allie Brehmer; one sister, Delores Scheffen, Green Bay; one brother-in-law, George Beaumia, Green Valley; three sisters-in-law, Marian Tappa, Waupaca; Ann Renel and Barb Nockers, all of Oconto Falls; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and two husbands, she was also preceded in death by five brothers, Lawrence, Lloyd, Gilbert, Leonard and Bernard Tappa, four sisters, Frieda Bitters, Mildred Lipp, Marie Weyenburg and Iletta Neerdahls, one son-in-law, Mike McDermid, and one great-grandson, Michael Hollis McDermid, on Sept. 30, 2014.
Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls, with an altar rosary prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continued after 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls until the time of services. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Shirley’s family would like to thank her very special caregivers, Sonya Wood, Judy Osborne and Becky Decker, for their care and concern they’ve shown the entire family.
