Allan “Al” Schmidt, 82, of Green Bay, formerly of Kelly Lake and Oconto Falls, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 8, 2014, at Tender Hearts care facility in Howard. He was born June 27, 1932, in Gillett to Adolph and Martha (Zahn) Schmidt.
Al grew up in Gillett where he attended public schools, graduating from high school with the Class of 1950. On Sept. 13, 1952, he married Margaret Closser at Grace Lutheran Church in Green Bay. The couple lived in Gillett and Kewaunee before moving to Oconto Falls in 1960.
Al was a Standard Oil agent and bulk plant owner for 21 years and also drove bus for the Oconto Falls School District for 35 years. Over the years, Al also enjoyed residential painting. He and Margaret retired to their home at Kelly Lake in 1999 and just moved to Green Bay in April of this year. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls and was currently a member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Suring.
Survivors are his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret Schmidt, Green Bay; their three children, Debra (husband Timothy Lofgren) Schmidt, Waupaca, Steven Allan (Lori) Schmidt, La Crosse, and Sherry Schmidt, Milwaukee; five grandchildren, Erich Allan ((Robin) Schmidt, Joseph (Megan) Schmidt and Elisabeth Schmidt, Hope Lofgren-Schmidt and Jin Lofgren-Schmidt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Eleanor Paholke and Lucille Klitzke; and one brother, Willard Schmidt.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls. Visitation continued after 9:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 11005 County Road M, Suring, until the time of service. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Jacob Gawlik officiating. Burial followed in Wanderers Rest Cemetery, Gillett.
