Owners of farmland and agricultural producers have an opportunity to learn more about their choices and obligations under the new farm bill.
The Farm Service Agency and University of Wisconsin-Extension of Marinette and Oconto counties will provide workshops at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at the Oconto Falls Community Library, 251 N. Main St., and at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the Crivitz Village Hall, 800 Henriette Ave.
Scott Reuss, UW-Extension crops/soils agent, and Nancy Swenty, county FSA executive director, will lead a discussion of the options and choices that need to be made and the time line.
All crop landowners and crop producers have the opportunity to make important decisions as part of the new farm bill. Not understanding the options could lead to a loss of 2014 program eligibility or not having the best program in place for the five-year farm bill.
There is no fee for attending either of these programs, nor is preregistration required. However, registering through the Farm Service Agency office at 920-834-2366 will allow FSA personnel to have pertinent information available for attending producers.

Producers or landowners who can’t attend a workshop and want to discuss the programs in detail should contact Reuss, who ill work through simulations of potential program options with a farm owner and help with the decision making.
