BOYS BASKETBALL Lena 50 Gillett 39 Hunter Borchert hit four 3-pointers and scored 20 points in Lena’s victory at home Friday. Borchert also had 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots. Dalton Anderson added 10 points for Lena (5-8, 3-7 Marinette & Oconto Conference). Adam Werner had 11 points to lead Gillett (4-9, 2-6 M&O). Marinette 57 Oconto Falls 50 Despite a game-high 21 points by Riley Gruetzmacher, Oconto Falls remained winless in the Bay Conference with its loss Jan. 20 at Marinette. Oconto Falls outscored the Marines 35-25 in the second half. Jack Huberty added 10 points for Oconto Falls (2-10, 0-8 Bay). Jake Holley led Marinette (3-7, 1-6 Bay) with 12 points. Suring 50 Gillett 44 Suring freshman Ryan Mahoney scored a game-high 14 points against visiting Gillett on Jan. 20. Gillett outscored the Eagles 15-10 in the fourth quarter. Gillett (4-8, 2-5 Marinette & Oconto Conference) had three scorers in double figures: Leeland Kahler and Dan Torres, each with 13, and Matt Peterson, with 11. Creo VanBellinger and Josh Vollmar added 10 points each for Suring (6-7, 5-4 M&O). GIRLS BASKETBALL Gillett 39 Coleman 31 Freshman Taylor Yonker scored a team-high 11 points in Gillett’s Marinette & Oconto Conference win against visiting Coleman on Monday. Junior Maya Breed, who finished with a career-best eight points, hit a 3-point shot to give Gillett a 15-14 lead entering halftime. With the win, Gillett (11-5, 10-1 Marinette and Oconto Conference) remained in second place behind Peshtigo. McKenzie Kostreva led Coleman (8-8, 7-3 Marinette and Oconto) with 10 points. Seymour 42 Oconto Falls 23 Senior Kayla Virtues’ eight points and 10 rebounds were not enough Friday as Oconto Falls lost at Seymour. Oconto Falls was outscored 31-12 in the final three quarters after playing the Thunder even in the first period. Oconto Falls (6-8, 4-6 Bay Conference) also received eight points from 6-foot sophomore Jenny Krueger. Madilyn Heinke had 13 points for Seymour (13-3, 9-1 Bay). Gillett 50 Lena 37 Gillett senior Taylor Kohls scored a game-high 18 points Thursday against visiting Lena. The teams were deadlocked 22-22 at halftime. Freshman Taylor Yonker nailed four 3-pointers for Gillett (10-5, 9-1 Marinette & Oconto Conference) and scored 17 points. Nikki Saldana led Lena (1-12, 1-9 M&O) with 11 points. Oconto Falls 37 Marinette 36 Oconto Falls defeated visiting Marinette 37-36 Jan. 20 behind leading scorer Jennifer Krueger’s 16 points. The Panthers held on for the victory after being outscored 12-5 in the fourth quarter. Cassandra Hilbert led Marinette with 18 points. WRESTLING Oconto Falls 53 New London 13 Oconto Falls won six of 10 contested matches against New London at a triangular meet Thursday in Marinette. Earning pins for Oconto Falls were Sam Konitzer (126), who pinned Grant Oswald at 3 minutes, 21 seconds, Nate Trepanier (145) who pinned Carlos Enamorado at 2:40, and Kyle Wolf (220) who pinned Justin Behnke at 4:38. Also, Evan Konitzer (113) won 10-2 over Maddie Ruckdashel, Brett Ash (138) beat Skylar Moderson 11-7 and Jake Yatso (152) won 15-7 over Gabe Oswald.
