At a Dec. 15 special meeting, the City Council approved the hire of Karl Goerlinger, effective Dec. 17, as a full-time officer for the Gillett Police Department. His wage was set at $20 an hour, and he is considered a second-year employee.
Goerlinger, a part-time Gillett officer since March 2013, was promoted to full time in January 2014 as a limited-term employee, to fulfill the terms of a federal grant. The grant financed a full-time position for three years, with the condition the city cover the fourth. In November, Goerlinger reverted to part-time status, when the grant period ended.
He returned to full-time duties Dec. 15, following the retirement of Sgt. Dennis Heise.
