Students at Oconto Falls Elementary jumped all over heart disease and stroke by participating in Jump Rope for Heart the week of Feb. 9. The students raised more than $11,100 for the American Heart Association, which funds research, programs and education to fight heart disease and stroke, the nation’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers.
Jump Rope for Heart implemented a new incentive program allowing students to earn a splatter duck and lanyard for collecting at least $5 in donations. The students could earn different ducks to add to their lanyard by meeting different donation levels.
“I’m so pleased with the success of this year’s event. The students went duck crazy over the new duck incentive program,” said Rochell Otto, Jump Rope for Heart coordinator. “We all had a lot of fun, and the kids enjoyed learning about the importance of physical activity and how they can play a role in saving lives.”
Jump Rope for Heart is a program that promotes physical activity and heart health through jumping rope. It is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and SHAPE America-Society of Health and Physical Educators.
