2-candidate race for Suring village president

Two candidates are running for president of the village of Suring. Here are their candidate profiles. Jeff Whiting Age: 50, Suring resident for 39 years Education: Suring High School, 1982; University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Bachelor of Arts degree in regional analysis and political science, 1986 Employment: Teach school, town of Riverview deputy treasurer, Oconto County Volunteers in Probation Experience: “I have either worked for or been involved in government all my adult life. I have undertaken many roles. I am actively involved in the village of Suring Community Development Authority. I am on the board of directors of the Nicolet Health Clinic, with a goal to help achieve excellent, affordable health care to all who are in need.” Statement: “I am the best candidate for the position of Suring village president. I will do my best to bring good paying employment into the village. I will, with Village Board’s cooperation, reduce taxes. I will insure proper protection for all village residents. Danger is hiding around every corner; we are seriously lacking protection. People have the right to feel secure in their own home and community. I will strive to see all residents feel that security.” Jay Tousey Age: 67, lifelong Suring resident Education: Associate degree, Michigan Tech Employment: President of Tousey Manufacturing for 34 years Experience: Village president; American Legion Post, past commander; Suring Sportsman Club member; Suring Business Association member; Chute Pond snowmobile club officer; Oconto County Economic Development and Tourism Committee officer; St. Michael Parish, past president Statement: “Helping guide the village after Evenflo left, overseeing upgrades of infrastructure mandated by federal regulations, helped bring in almost $7 million in grants to the village. The real reason I am running is the love of the village and the people who live here. I worked very hard to retain business and industry in Suring and also to bring in new business and industry to Suring since the last election.”
