Extra innings were required for the Panthers to earn a victory in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday against New London.
With the score tied 2-2 after seven innings, junior Tyler Hagemeier hit a two-out single to score junior catcher Mike Manns and senior Brett Ash. Manns was 2 for 3, scored one run and had one RBI, driving in Joey Wolford in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie.
Evan Sigmund pitched the first seven innings for Oconto Falls (5-5, 3-5 Bay Conference) but couldn’t get the victory, as New London scored on an error and passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning. Sigmund had seven strikeouts and allowed two earned runs on four hits, with three walks. Senior Connor Sefcik sealed the victory, pitching a scoreless eighth inning.
Tyler Jagiello pitched all eight innings for New London, striking out 14 Panthers, and allowed four runs on six hits, walking five.

Senior Riley Gruetzmacher held New London to two hits in seven innings Saturday in the opening game of a doubleheader. Gruetzmacher struck out eight hitters, allowed no walks and faced 25 batters — four above the minimum.
Brett Ash’s fourth-inning grand slam was the key blow for the Oconto Falls offense. Ash was 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs.
A two-out single in the second inning by center fielder Sam Shroyer (2 for 3) drove in Evan Sigmund and first baseman Dylan Woosman to open the scoring. The Panthers added two runs in the sixth inning, on a bases-loaded single by Ash and a bases-loaded walk to Gruetzmacher.
New London pitchers Lane Hanadel and Aaron Yorkson allowed eight walks and eight hits, and struck out five hitters.

Oconto Falls defeated visiting Shawano behind a 10-strikeout performance by Riley Gruetzmacher on April 28.
Gruetzmacher pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk. He also had a double for the Panthers (3-5, 1-5 Bay Conference).
Chase Henning (2 for 3, two RBIs) hit a two-run home run for Shawano (5-4, 2-2 Bay) .

Gillett/Suring 17
Wausaukee 7
The Hornets snapped a four-game losing streak with a 17-7 drubbing of visiting Wausaukee on Friday night.
Gillett/Suring (7-4, 3-4 Marinette & Oconto Conference) was led by sophomore Victoria Loberger, who belted the team’s first home run of the season and scored three runs. Sophomore Greta Sleeter had three hits and scored three runs.
Willow Pecha pitched all six innings, earning five strikeouts and allowing six hits to Wausaukee (3-5, 2-3 M&O).

The Panthers got on the board first, but a nine-run first inning by host Marinette derailed Oconto Falls in Thursday’s loss.
Liz Manns scored on a single by McKenna Holman in the top of the first inning to account for Oconto Falls’ sole run. Sabrina Brasier and Madison Helmle tallied the Panthers’ other two hits.
Oconto Falls hurler MaKenna Kussow allowed seven straight singles in the bottom of the first inning. The Panthers fell to 3-7 overall, 2-5 in the Bay Conference.
Starter Ellie Wahl struck out eight and allowed one run on four hits over five innings for Marinette (11-2, 6-2 Bay).

A three-run second inning was not enough as Oconto Falls lost a nonconference game April 28 at Algoma.
Bailey Magnin tripled in two of the three runs, scoring Sabrina Brasier (2 for 2) and Brittany Russell. Magnin scored on a double by Liz Manns (2 for 4). McKayla Johnson belted a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning, her second home run in two games, for Oconto Falls’ final run.
MaKenna Kussow took the loss for Oconto Falls (3-6, 2-4 Bay Conference). Algoma (7-0, 7-0 Packerland) was led by Andi Vandertie, who had two hits and two RBIs.

STAA/Lena 3
The top three hitters in the order scored runs Thursday for STAA/Lena.
Marley Carviou, who had a hit and scored a run, took the loss on the mound. She pitched seven innings and struck out six. She allowed six earned runs on eight hits and walked none.
Also scoring runs for STAA/Lena (3-5, 1-5 Marinette & Oconto Conference) were Hailey Brock and Makayla Bushmaker. Millie Benson had a hit and a RBI.
Amanda Majewski earned the win for the Bulldogs (10-1, 7-0 M&O). She struck out 10 and allowed one earned run on four hits over seven innings. She also had two hits and two RBIs, as did Teja Tonn.
TRACK
Suring boys, girls win meet
The Suring boys and girls track teams captured first places Monday at the Suring Quad + 1. The boys accumulated 195 points to top Menominee Indian (59), Wolf River Lutheran (32), Wabeno (26) and Lena/STAA (7).
Suring received individual wins from Trent Lechleitner (100 hurdles, 18:00 seconds; 300 hurdles, 46.32), Creo VanBellinger (100, 12.65; 200, 25.45), Bob Mahoney (800, 2:16.43), John Christensen (high jump, 5 feet, 10 inches), Mark Runge (pole vault, 11-00; long jump, 17-06.75).
The Suring girls scored 173.5 points and were followed by Wabeno (72.50), Menominee Indian (29), Lena/STAA (26) and Wolf River Lutheran (7).
Suring’s first-place winners were Hailey Thompson (100 hurdles, 19.02), Faith Buhrandt (1,600, 7:21.68), Breanna Tienor (300 hurdles, 56.94), Jazmine Chesterfield (800, 2:58.39), Katie Stegeman (high jump, 5-00), Az VanBellinger (long jump, 14-06.50), Brooke Gauthier (discus, 106-01; shot put, 33-07.50.).
Christina Jagiello earned Lena/STAA’s sole win in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 8-3.
