Oconto Pharmacy announces the winners of its third annual quilt show.
First-place winner was Barb Boettcher, of Crivitz, for her Victorian Style quilt featuring old gloves, handkerchiefs, doilies and lace, all which hold special memories for her.
She first learned her love of quilting from her mother who used wool and flannel to hand stitch her quilts to keep her children warm on cold Wisconsin nights. She furthered her love of quilting when her mother-in-law showed her her hand-pieced quilts.
Boettcher now has created her own style, preferring to work outside the box, dabbling with applique, shirt, landscape, shadowbox, memory and prayer quilting, but her favorite style is crazy quilting, creating blocks from whatever goodies have accumulated in her special drawer.
Second place was won by Marion Devroy, of Peshtigo, for her Christmas quilt, which was hand embroidered and hand quilted. Devroy has always sewn but decided to try quilting and has been a quilter for about 25 years. Her favorite techniques are applique and embroidery, and she does mostly hand quilting.
The third-place winner was Carol Kopecky, of Crivitz, for her Best Friends quilt. Kopecky first got into quilting four years ago when she joined a book/quilt club featuring books by Jennifer Chaiverelli. This was her first time entering a quilt show, and there likely will be many more in her future.
This year’s contestants ranged in age from 11 to 92.
The quilts were on display at Oconto Pharmacy. The pharmacy thanks the contestants and everyone who voted in the contest.
