The Oconto Falls High School Music Department awarded 13 $100 scholarships to students enrolled in either band, choir or both ensembles for their entire high school careers.
Students submitted essays describing how music made a difference in their lives.
This year’s recipients and their college plans follow: Nick Borisch (band and choir), son of David and Kathleen Borisch, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, physics education; Drew Demeny (band), son of Don and Amy Demeny, Marquette University, elementary education; McCoy Fischer (band), son of Anthony and Kimberly Fischer, UW-Oshkosh, communications; Garret Gubbels (band), son of Paul and Sue Gubbels, University of North Dakota, air traffic control (aviation pilot); Samara Kaiser (band and choir), daughter of Alan and Laura Kaiser, UW-Marinette, physical therapy; Jordan Koppa (band), son of Lyle and Brenda Koppa, University of North Dakota, air traffic control; Jacob Larson (band), son of Dan and Jennifer Larson, St. Norbert College, business; Haley Pritzl (choir), daughter of Robin and Nancy Pritzl, UW-Whitewater, general studies; Kimberly Schliep (band), daughter of Greg and Diane Schliep, UW-Stevens Point, arts management; Liam Spillane (band), son of Patrick and Julie Spillane, UW-Platteville, forensic investigation; Courtney Van Haren (choir), daughter of Patrick and Nancy Van Haren, UW-Stout, interior design; Matt VerVelde (band), son of Joe and Judy VerVelde, UW-Green Bay, electrical engineering and business administration; and Kayla Virtues (band), daughter of Patrick and Michelle Virtues, Concordia University, nursing.
