A quilt block from the Barn Quilts of Oconto County project is on display on the 4-H food stand at the Oconto County Fairgrounds at Zippel Park in Gillett. Last year, the fair held a quilt block contest, and Kati Raddatz won with her 4-H design.
Raddatz has been a member of the Christy Brook 4-H Club for five years. She has been involved with various community service projects in her club, with her favorite being volunteer work at local humane societies.
At the 2015 fair, she will show her heifer, Vixie, and participate in the youth cake auction. She exhibited her leopard gecko, Leo in the small animal show Sunday.
Raddatz said she has always liked to draw and color rainbows since she was old enough to hold a pencil, as reflected in the rainbow colors that are shown in her quilt. Her family helped her come up with the design, and her cousin, Laney Debauch, assisted her in painting the quilt block. Raddatz and Debauch would meet on Tuesday afternoons at New View to paint, starting on July 7 and ending Aug. 4.
Raddatz said she is humbled that her artwork is on display for the community to see. She has had her school artwork chosen for the annual art show for several years, but this is her first art piece displayed on a public building.
The barn quilt is located on the south end of the 4-H food stand.
