Cut sales tax to counteract Lambeau overtax

To the editor, I have been watching the news and reading about the half percent Brown County sales tax for the Lambeau Field expansion from day one. I’m an avid Packers fan and a retired construction worker, and supported the expansion and tax. I live in Oconto County and, like most people here, spend a large part of my disposable income in Brown County. When I heard that the people had been overtaxed for the expansion, I thought, “This is simple, just cut the sales tax back to 4.5 percent till the $17,600,000 overtax is gone,” thereby returning the vast majority back to the people that were overtaxed. I have not heard anyone even mention such a thing. Now they want to spend the money on something else or use it to lower property taxes to entities that don’t even pay sales tax and have already reaped huge benefits from this project, like gas stations, restaurants, motels, box stores, construction firms and countless other businesses. This is just another case of taxing the poor and middle class and feeding that money to the rich, in return for campaign contributions. Just remember this when you vote. Danny Cole, Abrams
