Wisconsin had 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending Aug. 2, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Southern and eastern portions of the state received much needed rainfall, while dry conditions continued in northwestern areas.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 9% very short, 21% short, 68% adequate and 2% surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 7% very short, 20% short, 70% adequate and 3% surplus.
Corn silking was 72% complete, even with the 5-year average. Sixteen percent of corn had reached the dough stage.
Corn condition was 72% good to excellent, down 2 percentage points from last week. Soybeans blooming reached 86% compared to the average of 81%. Fifty-three percent of soybeans were setting pods. Soybean condition was 70% good to excellent, the same as last week.
Oats were 93% coloring compared to the average of 90%. Oats were 41% harvested. Oat condition was rated 77% good to excellent, down 2 percentage points from last week. Winter wheat was 69% harvested, even with the average.
The third cutting of alfalfa hay was 50% complete compared to the average of 47%. All hay condition was 70% good to excellent, down 3 percentage points from last week.
Pasture and range condition was 54% good to excellent, down 3 percentage points from last week.
