When it comes to providing a child with a life-changing experience, there’s something unique about 4‐H summer camp. It provides the full benefits of a 4‐H experience coupled with the fun and wonder of camping in the great outdoors.
From June 24-27, 150 youths attended the 2025 4-H MarOcoSha Residential Program at Camp Bird in Crivitz. This experience offered youths who have completed grades 3-7 the opportunity to try new SPARKS.
Campers were led by counseling staff in grades 8-13 who have completed five months of training in child development, leadership, teamwork, preparedness, conflict care, and basics of educational planning and teaching. The counselor team planned activities and education for camp under the guidance of 4-H Extension staff from Shawano, Marinette and Oconto counties: Megan Suehring, Tami Goers and Aimee Elkins.
Youths were introduced to environmental and outdoor educational experiences such as hiking, fishing, canoeing and natural sciences. Campers participated in team-building activities such as creating a marble run, group initiatives and building a boat to float their counselor on water.
Group recreation was provided in large and small group settings. Each night, campers, counselors and adult staff joined together for campfire before enjoying an evening of rest in cabins.
