Gillett veterans banners project approved

The Gillett City Council gave final approval April 3 to hanging banners downtown that honor individual local veterans as a “Hometown Hero.” The project is championed by Michael Kohn, who is working with DotCom Branding of Shawano to produce the banners. He hopes to display the banners on downtown light poles from Memorial Day to Labor Day. There has also been discussion about bringing the banners to display at the annual Veterans Day observance at Gillett High School in November. “I was told that they had the equipment to put up 20 banners,” Kohn told the council. “I’ve had various people contact me.” Now that he has the city’s official OK, Kohn said he will move forward. “I’ll let people know to get a hold of me, and I’ll go to DotCom in Shawano to make the banners,” he said. “What I did was have refrigerator magnets made of mine and my dad’s (banners), and they came out really nice.” Kohn posted on social media that people who would like to honor a loved one with a veterans banner can contact him at 765-434-3439. wbluhm@newmedia-wi.com
