Shawano County supervisors adopted a resolution March 26 to approve additional uses of residential rental property funds.
The original 2013 resolution approved the carryover of the funds for future property acquisition, and ongoing maintenance and repairs at rental properties owned by Shawano County and maintained by the building maintenance department.
The new resolution clarifies the use of the funds, which can now be used for decommissioning, demolition and lawn landscape of the residences.
The county will pay nearly $12,900 to remove asbestos at 205 and 221 W. Fourth St., Shawano. The two homes are west of the courthouse and are part of the block of homes that could one day be used for a courthouse expansion project.
Demolition could soon follow.
An estimate to have the highway department raze the two homes is $51,000.
As of Dec. 31, 2024, the account has a balance of $220,161.31, about $1,000 less than what was reported at the Jan. 9 meeting of the public property committee.
