The Chargers dominated the Rebels right out of the gate, leading 44-7 at halftime and 62-28 at the final buzzer.
“Again, defense was the name of the game. We provided a lot of pressure in the first half, which allowed us to sub in everyone in and out,” coach Nick Mechelke said. “It’s nice to get our girls some rest with playing six games in two weeks and just before playoffs.”
On offense, Melaina Granquist led Wittenberg-Birnamwood with 28 points. Rory Salvesen connected on 13, and Harper Rogowski added 12. Rogowski was 3-of-6 from behind the arc.
Granquist also led the team with eight rebounds. Rogowski and Salvesen each had two assists, and Salvesen led with six steals.
Lena 72, Coleman 42
The Wildcats held a seven-point lead at halftime and blew the game open with a huge second half as they defeated Coleman 72-42 in the M&O Conference matchup.
Lena improved to 14-1 in league play and 20-2 overall.
Madilyn Thomson led Lena with 29 points and 10 rebounds. Kali Fischer and Eva Brooks each scored 11 points and pulled down six rebounds.
Thomson also set the pace with eight assists. Fischer and Thomson each had four steals.
Lakeland 58, Shawano 44
In a non-conference matchup, the Thunderbirds extended their lead right before halftime and didn’t look back in a 58-44 win over the Hawks.
Coach Ryan Koenig said the Hawks played great defense, but a few costly turnovers and Lakeland second chance points were too much for Shawano.
