Antigo 9, Waupaca 6
The Great Northern Conference matchup was a back-and-forth contest throughout the first period and the start of the second, when Antigo went on a five-goal unanswered streak to to push the score to 9-3 early in the third period.
Eli Kassler scored five goals for the Red Robins, and Owen Dickman added three. Liam Burt had the other Antigo goal.
Scoring started in the first period with Kassler finding the back of the net at 4:07 with a Dickman assist. The Comets tied the score at 1-1 only to have Burt score and put Antigo on top 2-1. Waupaca tied the game again until Kassler scored at 7:34 for a3-2 advantage. Dickman added to the lead at 16:09 with Kassler assisting.
Waupaca scored at 6:44 in the second period to make it 4-3. Then the scoring began. Kassler scored there goals in about four minutes, with Dickman and Carson Rhode assisting on the third goal. Then, Dickman scored at 14:13 to put Antigo on top 8-3. Kassler and Parker Chaney assisted Dickman on the score.
The third period opened with another Dickman goal and Kassler assist at 2:30 to make it 9-3.
Waupaca scored three more times in the period but couldn’t overcome the deficit.
Richie Veriha recorded 29 saves against 35 shots on goal. Waupaca’s Gavin Hafferman had 36 saves against 45 shots on goal.
The Comets were penalized three times for nine minutes. The Red Robins were called for six infractions for 12 minutes.
Antigo is 4-2-1 in the Great Northern Conference and 8-8-1 overall.
Sheboygan 8, Shawano/Bonduel 1
Shawano/Bonduel’s single goal in the second period against Sheboygan was sandwiched by four goals by the Red Raiders in each of the first and third periods for a final 8-1 loss.
Sheboygan tallied 47 shots on goal, with Shawano/Bonduel goalie Kaiden Thornborrow collecting 39 saves. Shawano/Bonduel had 27 shots on goal.
Shawano/Bonduel’s goal was scored by Jeremy Helmuth at 15:35 in the middle period; Gavin Hundt assisted.
Shawano/Bonduel was penalized twice for four minutes, while Sheboygan was called for six infractions for 20 minutes.
Shawano/Bonduel is 10-7 overall.
