Residents of the villages of Lena and Suring have an opportunity Oct. 1 to provide input and feedback toward revitalization of their downtown areas.
Jayme Sellen, executive director of the Tourism and Economic Development Corporation for the Oconto Region, said the agency obtained a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant to help the two municipalities.
“We are holding stakeholder sessions on Oct. 1,” Sellen told the Oconto County Board during her monthly report Sept. 19. “Obviously we want to make sure we engage stakeholders to get correct information so that we can come up with a plan to help out those downtown areas.”
In an interview, Sellen said the process also involves a survey of residents and stakeholders with questions like “What do you do after 5 p.m.” to assess what the community needs to round out its services.
Downtown Strategies/Retail Strategies is a consulting firm that specializes in developing action plans that cover a community’s policy and administration, downtown design, tourism and economic vitality.
The 90-minute sessions are scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct. 1 at Lena Village Hall, 117 E. Main St., and 6 p.m. Oct. 1 at Suring Village Hall, 604 E. Main St.
