It’s almost time for the Bonduel Track and Field annual golf outing to benefit all Bonduel athletic programs.
This year’s four-person scramble and dinner event will be held Sept. 14 at the Shawano Lake Golf Course (Shalagoco).
Organizer Greg Strayer said the group formed nearly two decades ago to help with the costs of maintenance of the football field and track.
Now, the goal is to raise funds for a new press box and a shed for maintenance equipment that would be under the press box.
“Years ago, the press box was built by the shop class, and it’s in need of repairs,” Strayer said. “The school would also like it moved because, after they created a new school entrance, the box blocks the view of the entrance.”
The latest estimates are the press box and maintenance area would cost about $150,000, said Chris Rank, activities director at Bonduel High School and a member of the Bonduel Track and Field group.
Funds were recently donated to buy travel bags for the football team.
“We have a new youth volleyball program starting, and we’re looking to get some help with the cost of uniforms,” Rank said. “We really help all levels – youth, middle school and high school – in whatever ways we can, whether it’s existing programs or helping new ones get off the ground.”
Long-term plans at the school include a turf field for football and expanding the six-lane track to eight lanes.
The golf outing usually raises between $8,000 and $12,000, Stayer said.
“We have about 100 golfers come out, hole sponsors, raffles and community donations,” he said.
The shotgun start will be at noon. Cocktails will be served at 5 p.m., with the dinner at 6 p.m.
Prizes, raffles and auctions will follow the meal.
Strayer noted that the golf outing alternates each year between the Shalagoco and Golden Sands Golf Course.
The price to participate is $80 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, dinner and prizes. For the meal only, the price is $45 per person.
