Vernon G. Mortier

Vernon G. Mortier, 92, Oconto Falls, died Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at an area hospital. He was born July 19, 1932, in rural Oconto Falls to August and Theresa (Loberger) Mortier. When he was 4 years old, the family moved to rural Oconto where Vern graduated from Lena High School with the class of 1950. Following graduation, he attended vocational school in Milwaukee and worked as a machinist for three years. On Sept. 25, 1954, he married Mary Jane Everard at St. Charles Catholic Church in Lena. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Oconto Falls where they raised four children of their own and numerous foster children. Always a hard worker, Vern became the assistant manager at Bay Lake Cooperative in Oconto Falls for 36 years. He was a member of Riverview Alliance Church in Oconto Falls. Vern will be fondly remembered as a tireless volunteer and member of the Oconto Falls Lions Club, the Oconto County Genealogical Society and Kingdom Come Food Pantry in Oconto Falls for many years. Survivors are his four children, Karen (Fred) Mayer, Bakersfield, California, Michael (Julie) Mortier, Appleton, Donn (Alice) Mortier, Fond du Lac, Lynn (James) Newlun, Racine; 13 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren; one brother, Melvin (Jan) Mortier, of Oconto; three sisters, Gloria Blaser, Oconto Falls, Alleen Finger and Viola Bourassa, both of Oconto; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Jane, in 2015; and three brothers, Joseph, Monroe and Harold Mortier. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls. Visitation will continue after 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, at Riverview Alliance Church in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church with Pastor Kevin Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Spruce. Jones Funeral Service is serving the Mortier family. In lieu of flowers, memorial funds will be donated to Kingdom Come Food Pantry.
