The City of Oconto Falls has set the dates for the dedication and a public open house for the community’s new fire station.
The dedication is set for 11 a.m. Aug. 7 at the new home of the Oconto Falls Fire Department, 431 Union Ave., at the south end of Memorial Field.
The Oconto Falls Area Chamber of Commerce is planning to stage a ribbon cutting. During the July 9 city council meeting, City Administrator Peter Wills said Gov. Tony Evers has been invited, along with state Department of Administration (DOA) officials, state Assembly and Senate representatives, employees of Zeise Construction and Wendell Architects, as well as local residents.
The new facility was built with the help of a $7 million infrastructure grant funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act and administered through the DOA.
The public open house has been scheduled for 3-5 p.m. Aug. 25.
Fire Chief Tim Magnin told the city council he expects the department will be able to close out the grant ahead of schedule, although some minor problems are still being worked out in the new building.
“There’s little stuff — some of the heating and air conditioning units, some of that stuff we’re tweaking a little bit,” Magnin said. “There’s certain things in the building that I consider wasting energy, because things are working more than they should. So we’re trying to tweak all that stuff — lighting, air.”
It will take awhile before the department is fully acclimated to the new facility. The department moved from its old home at 98 Jackson St. starting June 1.
