A revamped federal program could lead to housing and commercial investment in Shawano, according to several people who spoke at a chamber of commerce program April 29.

Opportunity Zones, first created in 2017 and operated through the White House, are now a permanent part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The Casimir Pulaski Days celebration will not be held in 2027, organizers announced following an April 22 meeting. While this longstanding community tradition will not take place next year, the organization is leaving the door open for its return in the future.

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin announced she successfully pushed the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to approve the transfer of Newcap grants to other capable and qualified organizations.

The transfer of funding will ensure that the 134 Wisconsin families Newcap served can continue receiving housing support, she said.
