New sobriety peer recovery support program launched

Shawano Area Matthew 25 has partnered with Core Behavioral Health Services to offer a new peer-to-peer recovery support program providing encouragement, connection and guidance for individuals working toward sobriety.

The initiative began March 12 and meets every Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at SAM’s House, 105 E. Richmond St., Shawano. The schedule is expected to remain consistent throughout the year, including during the off-season when the winter shelter is not operating.

The recovery support group is open to anyone in the community seeking encouragement related to sobriety, including individuals in recovery, those struggling with substance use or anyone who would benefit from connecting with peers who share similar lived experiences. While many participants may already access SAM25 programs, the service is open to the broader public.

Peer support specialists leading the program are certified and employed through Core Behavioral Health Services, with funding made possible through organizational grants. The partnership reflects both organizations’ shared commitment to expanding access to recovery resources and reducing barriers for individuals seeking support.

In addition to the new recovery support program, SAM25 provides several year-round services for community members experiencing hardship, including a winter emergency shelter, resource center, free health clinic, optometry clinic, meals, case management, showers, laundry facilities, a community thrift store and connections to housing, employment and other resources.

The SAM25 Resource Center is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. The free health clinic operates from 4-8 p.m. Thursdays, and the optometry clinic is held from 6-8 p.m. the third Monday of each month. The SAM25 Thrift Store is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
