Once more our calendar is turning, and October has arrived. The darkness is falling sooner each day, and after the warmth of the past couple of weeks, the nip is back in the air. Now that frost has struck area gardens, the orange pumpkins are rising above the once green vines.
The sights and sounds of geese winging their way south is commonplace as I am outside, doing yard clean up. The trees are at their peak in this area right now, and even though the sun isn’t shining as much, they still fill me with ohhhs and ahhhs. They urge me to grab my camera and head out to take some pictures.
There is one thing about me and a camera, it is the best thing to cause me to forget any joint pain or stiffness. If I have a camera in my hand, I can walk farther than other times, and snap away. I have spent a couple of days trying to get some perfect shots, but I need at least one more try before I am satisfied with my feeble attempt at capturing the autumn beauty provided to us in western Shawano County. Somehow, while pictures do tell a story, they can never capture the fullness of the moment in time.
I spent last Friday and Saturday in southern Wisconsin, to visit my aunts and some of my friends. There is some autumn color there, but not as extensive as here. While I am always happy to visit, as I get older, I admit, I am more happy to get back home.
My bed sleeps the best, and I also must admit that I am becoming a creature of habit. I even forgot to pack my toothbrush. Yuck!
This weekend, the small village of Caroline will be awakened with an invasion of horses and people. It is billed as the largest trail ride in the state, and I don’t think anyone would argue that fact. It amazes me that the locals can organize and take care of them all.
Some years they have had warm weather, others have been cool, cold or even just plain wet. None of that seems to matter to horse people.
Many people have gotten their fall decorations outside, but I haven’t gotten that far as yet. I have only gotten to the thinking stage, but then I looked outside, and thought anything I put out would fade in comparison to the natural beauty.
By the time Halloween arrives later this month, nature will be pretty well bare, except for the leaves on the ground. I’ll find something to have out there by that time.
At this time I am pretty happy that my sleepy computer seems to have revived itself, and it is working much better. I haven’t gotten the idea of a laptop out of my mind, but I will shove it into the future again. Right now I am trying to save up enough money to buy new tires for the van.
Meanwhile, I am enjoying my cleaner desk, which has lasted longer than the norm. Of course, clean it isn’t, but it is at least under control, just like the calendar I turned to October. The only thing that has me stumped is, when does daylight saving time begin?
