The New Beginnings Store and Employment and Training Center’s youth employment program recently received a grant from the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation to create and administer an at-risk youth employment program.
The grant was awarded to help serve youth in foster care or the juvenile justice system or those struggling at school or experiencing family problems.
Participants in the program recently attended a job fair at the Shawano Job Center and then toured Northport Marine, Gillett, and Oconto Electric Cooperative, Oconto Falls.
The tours gave youth an opportunity to learn about the manufacturing and electrical distribution industries, careers in the area and the education needed for these careers. Participants saw the entire production of a boat, from sheet metal to the finished product.
New Beginnings is always looking for collaboration opportunities with local businesses. Businesses can help by providing opportunities such as work experiences, job shadows, company tours, mock interviews, volunteer projects, guest speakers or skills training.
New Beginnings Store and Employment and Training Center is a resale store that sells lightly used goods donated by the community. The Employment and Training Center offers employment and training services such as resume writing, job readiness and program referrals.
