Michael Robert “Battles” Bartelt, 48, of Shawano, passed away Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, in Shawano.
Michael was born on Nov. 17, 1965, the son of the late Robert Bartelt and Marva (Knope) Wege. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
Battles owned and operated The Shack in Shawano and Shooters in Embarrass. In his younger years he played baseball and softball. He later went on to sponsor numerous baseball, volleyball and softball teams. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, shooting pool and was an avid deer hunter. He was in the National Guard and was also a life member of the Shawano AMVETS Post 10.
Michael is survived by three children, Jonathan, Miranda and Emma Bartelt, all of Shawano; his mother, Marva (Don) Wege, of Shawano; two sisters, Nancy (Dick) Charron, of De Pere, and Vicky (Bill) Brennan, of De Pere; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Robert Bartelt; a stepfather, Curt Berglin; and a sister, Kathryn Bartelt.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at St. James in Shawano with the Rev. Ted Andrada officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano with military honors conducted by Shawano AMVETS Post 10.
