It is with heavy hearts but gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Lorraine Marie Olson, 89, who died peacefully at home on July 22, 2024, after a short battle with cancer.
Lorraine was born June 20, 1935, in Oconto, to Rupert and Erma (Kruger) Rasmussen, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her husband, Russell, and brother, Allen Rasmussen.
Lorraine was a graduate of Oconto High School, class of 1954. She married Russell on June 5, 1954, and together they resided on their dairy farm at Stiles Junction. Lorraine also held various jobs, attended nurses aide training at Bellin Hospital and worked at the Oconto Memorial Hospital for many years until her help was needed on the farm.
She attended the Oconto Gospel Chapel where she taught Sunday School, was a junior and senior youth group leader, headed up the graduation dinner for many years, was active in the Ladies Missionary group and supported the church in any way she could. Lorraine had a special passion for missions and welcomed many missionaries into her home. She also sewed flags of many nations to be displayed at church during mission conferences. Lorraine was a prayer warrior, uplifting family, friends and her church family in prayer.
She was an outgoing person, and no one was a stranger around her for long. She had a loving and generous nature and many were recipients of one of her creative parties, decorated cakes, handmade quilts or luncheon cloths.
Her steadfast love and devotion for Russell for over the past 70 years was unshakeable. She was able to care for him at home, her greatest desire. Lorraine loved her role as a mother and grandmother again, remembering every birthday of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was happiest when planning her next event, always looking for a way to make the day memorable for others.
She kept up on the lives of her children, Lori Ann Olson, of Green Bay, and David (Laura) Olson, of Lena. She also had a deep love for her grandchildren, Daniel (Hannah) Olson, Bethany (Nelson) Brubaker, Leah Olson, Johanna (Marcus) Zimmerman, Sara (Lyndon) Zimmerman, Kristina Olson, John (Loryn) Olson and Lydia Olson, as well as 25 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by special “adopted” family, George and Jane Dowling.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Oconto Gospel Chapel, Oconto, from 9-11 a.m. on Friday, July 26. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Adam Sellen officiating. Burial will be at the Stiles Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be given towards a memorial fund for the Oconto Gospel Chapel and Lake Lundgren Bible Camp.
