To the editor:
Once again, the Dellwood kindergartners put on their traditional circus performance last month. My cousin, Linda Rockman, was in Mrs. Rosemary Rafoth’s first kindergarten class at Dellwood about 65 years ago. I am curious to know if this event has been a continuous effort.
In any case, it couldn’t be any better. John Young, the teacher, and Amy Bindas, the principal, are excellent examples of the outstanding people getting our young people started right. Teacher John Young emceed the show in the spirit of a true PT Barnum showman. The fierce wild tigers and lions, clown, silly monkey, tightrope walker, ribbon dancers, kittens and strong men and, yes, the first strong woman ever put on quite a show. Costumes were creative and music brought us right into a big top mode.
The principal, Amy Bindas, opened with an informative message of how the school is teaching the children life skills. The performance concluded with a finale of “Take Me Out to the Circus,” and all were treated to root beer floats.
These performances are open to the public, so even if you aren’t a parent or grandparent, don’t miss next year’s shows. If you know anything about the longevity of the show, recall when your kids or grandkids were in it, let me know.
