Leona L. Russell, 98, formerly of Gresham, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, Feb. 1, 2015, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Seymour, where she has resided for the past 10 years.
The former Leona Lindow was born on Feb. 19, 1916, in Gresham, a daughter of the late Herman and Minnie (Wruck) Lindow. She attended country schools in Lyndhurst.
Following school she assisted her parents on the family farm for several years. During World War II she was employed at Consolidated Badger. When the war ended and the GIs returned home, she went to work at Martin’s Laundry and at the box factory in Shawano.
She married Lawrence Russell, and shortly after their marriage the couple moved to Kaukauna. They later moved to Appleton. While living in Appleton, Leona had been employed at Lawrence University as a custodian. Her husband preceded her in death in February 2001.
Leona was always devoted to her family. She enjoyed cooking, baking and shopping.
Leona is survived by her son, Allen Lamberies, of Black Creek; two granddaughters, Kim Marie (Pete Mooney) Lamberies, of Kaukauna, and Chris (Terry) DeValk, of Appleton; four great-grandchildren, David and Will Mooney, Nina (Ryan Landau) DeValk and Rachel DeValk; and two great-great-grandchildren, Sophie DeValk and Nakio Landau.
Leona was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.
Services for Leona will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2015, at Mickelson Funeral and Cremation Service of Shawano. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano. Relatives and friends may call at Mickelson on Thursday from 12 p.m. until the time of service.
