Oconto Falls 5 Shawano 0 Riley Gruetzmacher pitched a season-opening no-hitter June 10 in a 5-0 win at Shawano. He fanned nine batters. Oconto Falls broke the game open in the top of the seventh inning, courtesy of a Sam Shroyer single to score Dalton Curl and a two-run double by Mike Manns (1 for 3, two RBIs). Falls posted its first run in the second inning on a Curl base hit to left field, scoring Wes Brabant (2 for 3). Antigo 2 Oconto Falls 1 Hunter Magnin tossed a complete game June 12, but Oconto Falls dropped Game 2 of a doubleheader at Antigo. Oconto Falls’ sole run came in the seventh inning on an infield hit by Sam Shroyer to score Joey Wolford (2 for 3, two doubles), who led off the inning with his second double of the game. Antigo pitcher Nick Greening notched a complete game and allowed one unearned run. Oconto Falls 1 Antigo 0 Oconto Falls won Game 1 of a June 12 doubleheader despite being no-hit by Antigo’s Randy Krebs, who struck out 14 and walked two in eight innings. In the decisive inning, Evan Sigmund advanced to first base on a dropped third strike and later scored on a fielding error on a ground ball by Magnin. Sigmund, who struck out eight and walked two, pitched eight innings and was able to close the game out after allowing a leadoff single. The runner advanced to second on a sacrifice, but Sigmund retired the final two hitters on a pop-up and ground ball to secure the victory. Niagara 4 Oconto Falls 3 After four scoreless innings, Oconto Falls struck first with three runs in the top of the fifth. Niagara responded with four in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win. Bryce Ash led off Oconto Falls’ fifth inning with a single. Sam Shroyer bunted and reached base on an error. Mike Manns singled in Ash, and Connor Sefcik drove in Shroyer and Manns on a two-out single.
