Larry Curran

Larry Curran, 74, Oconto Falls, died Tuesday afternoon, March 10, 2015, at home with his family present. He was born July 9, 1940, in Green Bay to Hubert and Dorothy (Van Haren) Curran. As a baby, Larry moved with his family to Oconto Falls, where he attended St. Anthony Catholic Grade School and graduated high school with the Class of 1958. A few months after graduation, Larry enlisted into the U.S. Air Force and began a 20-year military career as a missile systems analyst. On June 18, 1960, he married G. Marie Cerasaro at March Air Force Base in Riverside, California, and lived in western states, mostly California. Following his honorable discharge while stationed at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in Michigan, he retired back to Oconto Falls. While living in Oconto Falls, Larry worked for his brother Ron in his marine business and then worked as the service manager at Jim Kane Chevrolet for many years. The couple enjoyed being “Winter Texans” for a few years until Marie’s death on Feb. 2, 2005. Larry was a people person, and as a courier for St. Clare Memorial Hospital had daily contact with their clinics, where he developed many close friendships and enjoyed his work. As a longtime University of Wisconsin-Green Bay women’s basketball season ticket holder, he enjoyed attending games, concerts and traveling anywhere that interested him, including area restaurants. Larry was a member of the Oconto County DAV Chapter No. 45 and The Military Twenty Year Club Inc. of Marinette. Survivors are his four children, Mike Curran, Neenah, Jeanette (Fred) Block, Gillett, Jeanine (James) Van Patten, Bonduel, Dan (fiancee “Sam”) Curran, Oconto Falls; 12 grandchildren; seven-plus great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ron (Joan) Curran, Oconto Falls, Bill (Rosanne) Curran, South Dakota, Pat (Patty) Curran, Green Bay; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Curran, Green Bay, and Jan Bludworth, Oregon; two brothers-in-law, Merrill and Lloyd (Judy) Cerasaro, all of California; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he also was preceded in death by one brother, Doug Curran. Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 13, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls. Visitation continued after 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls until the time of services. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Burial with military honors followed in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls.
