Krueger pins down Battle on the Bay title

Oconto Falls High School claimed one championship and finished seventh among 24 schools Saturday at the Battle on the Bay Invitational at Bay Port High School in Green Bay. Senior Dewey Krueger defeated Two Rivers High School’s Chris Yauch in an 11-2 major decision to win the 152-pound title. Krueger, who won the Battle on the Bay 145-pound title last year, advanced to the final with a technical fall over Pewaukee’s Casey Anderson. The night before the tournament, Krueger pinned Bryce Odeman in 1 minute, 27 seconds in the Panthers’ 63-6 win over Menasha in a Bay Conference dual meet. Krueger, who won a state title at 138 pounds as a sophomore and finished second in the state tourney at 145 pounds as a junior, was ranked the top Division II wrestler at 152 pounds Dec. 10 by Wisconsin Wrestling Online. OFHS senior Sam Konitzer (126) notched third-place at the Battle on the Bay with a technical fall over Southern Door sophomore River Pawelski. Jacob Yatso (162) lost to Luxemburg-Casco’s Cullen Ducat in the fifth-place match on a fall, after defeating Southern Door’s Michael Letter 9-7. Also in a match for fifth place, sophomore Nate Trepanier lost on a technical fall to Kyle Routhieaux, of Luxemburg-Casco. Freedom (512) won the Battle on the Bay with Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln (475) garnering second and Luxemburg-Casco (411.5) third.
