Waupaca wears down Shawano/Bonduel hockey team

Dec. 10 Waupaca 6, Shawano/Bonduel 3 The Shawano/Bonduel boys hockey team hung close to Waupaca through most of the first two periods, but a flurry of three goals at the end of the second period and in the third period sealed a 6-3 win for the Comets. The teams were close in overall shots on goal, with Waupaca having 36 and Shawano/Bonduel at 31. Kaiden Thornborrow had 30 saves for Shawano/Bonduel. Shawano/Bonduel was down 2-0 just four minutes into the game when Waylon Snider scored with a Blake Swedberg assist at 6:52. Waupaca got the goal back two minutes later, but an even strength Gavin Hundt goal (with a Michael Dillenburg assist) at 16:05 made it 3-2 Waupaca’s favor as the period ended. Dillenburg assisted Max Huntington on a goal at 2:28 in the second period to tie the score at 3-3. The Comets recaptured the lead at 13:55 in the second period and added two more goals in the final period. Waupaca was penalized five times for 10 minutes, while Shawano/Bonduel was called for six infractions for 12 minutes.
