Walleye club holding fishing derby in Gillett

The Finnegan Lake Walleye Club will hold its annual fishing derby Feb. 22 in the main pavilion at Zippel Park, 150 N. McKenzie St., Gillett. The club will again be registering fish from area lakes at derby headquarters in Zippel Park. There will be prizes given for the largest northern, walleye, bass, crappie, perch, and bluegill. Fish registration ends at 3 p.m., and prizes will be awarded at 3:30 p.m. In addition, general raffle tickets are being sold by club members and are available at many businesses in and around Gillett and the Oconto County area. This year’s general raffle will offer $6,000 in cash prizes to include $1,000 cash for first place, $750 cash as the second place prize, $500 cash for third through fifth places, $250 cash for sixth place, and $100 cash for seventh through 21st places. This year the 22nd through 41st place winners will each receive $50. The drawing for these prizes will take place at 4:30 p.m. and ticket holders don’t need to be present to win. Bucket raffles with many nice prize packages will be available in the heated pavilion throughout the day. Impulse raffles and live auctions will begin at noon. There will be a variety of food and beverages available all day. The Finnegan Lake Walleye Club is a nonprofit organization that sponsors scholarships at Gillett, Suring and Oconto Falls high schools. The original mission of the club which continues today is the stewardship of Finnegan Lake and the boat landing area.
