Varlin F. Basina

Varlin F. Basina Sr., 80, of Neopit, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at his home. He was born on Dec. 17, 1934, in Keshena, the son of the late Francis and Iva (Peters) Basina. On May 19, 1962, Varlin was united in marriage to Delia Wilber in Manitowoc. He lived in the Keshena and Neopit area all his life and was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit. Varlin worked for J.I. Case in Wausau for 25 years before retiring. He enjoyed being in the woods, hunting, fishing and making maple syrup. Varlin is survived by his wife of 53 years, Delia; five children, Marlin (Karla) Basina, of Keshena, Deena Basina, of Keshena, Julie (Tony) Basina, of Milwaukee, Varlin (Shelly) Basina, Jr., of Keshena, and Bart (Lynn) Basina Sr. of Crandon; 17 grandchildren, including four special grandchildren whom he and Dahlia raised, Bart Jr., Amado, Breyen and Jamie (Aaron); and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015, at the Basina residence, N1613 State Highway 47, Neopit, with the Rev. David McElroy, O.Praem, officiating. Visitation will be held at the residence after 4 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015 until the time of the service Saturday.
