A Tigerton man has been indicted for allegedly using a shotgun to assault or interfere with a postal carrier, according to court documents.
On Sept. 24, Benjamin L. Joos, 43, allegedly, “knowingly and by means and use of a dangerous weapon, namely a shotgun, did forcibly assault, oppose, impede, intimidate, and interfere with a female postal worker while she was on the job,” according to the indictment issued on Oct. 8.
No official word on the carrier’s condition was released.
If convicted, Joos faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
Joos was arrested Oct. 10, and on the same day appeared in court in Green Bay, was arraigned and released on his own recognizance with conditions.
A jury trial was set for Dec. 16 before District Judge William Griesbach.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Postal Service investigated the case.
