There will be a postseason for the Gillett High School football team, which defeated Crivitz 21-6 Friday behind another 100-yard game by senior running back Monte Noffke.
Noffke rushed for 186 yards on 39 carries and scored two touchdowns.
The 5-foot-8, 165-pound halfback has amassed 941 yards in six games and leads the Marinette & Oconto Conference with 22 touchdowns.
“He has had a great year,” Gillett coach Rick Kamps said.
The win qualified the Tigers (6-1, 4-1 M&O) for the WIAA playoffs regardless of how they fare against Suring (2-5, 2-3 M&O) Friday or Peshtigo (4-3, 4-1 M&O) in the regular season finale Oct. 17.
Gillett shares second place in the M&O with Peshtigo, which plays at conference leader Coleman (6-1, 5-0 M&O) Friday.
Noffke opened the scoring against Crivitz with a 2-yard push into the end zone with 4:23 remaining in the first quarter. He added his second touchdown on an 18-yard run in the second quarter as the Tigers went into halftime with a 14-0 advantage.
Senior running back Matt Peterson scored from 1 yard out in the third quarter as Gillett built a 21-0 lead.
Crivitz (4-3, 3-2 M&O) scored its lone touchdown in the third quarter.
Gillett junior quarterback Alex Zeitler completed two of seven pass attempts for 39 yards.
“The wind was blowing out so we did not throw the ball too much,” Kamps said.
Cougar quarterback Kershaw Stumbris also had difficulty with the wind. He passed for only 9 yards and threw two interceptions, one caught by safety Ben Taylor and the other by Zeitler.
“(Taylor) did a nice job for us out there,” Kamps said. “We were able to put Zeitler back on defense and he got a nice pick.”
Gillett will close its regular season home schedule Friday with its homecoming game against Suring. It also will be senior night.
“It is one of those games where you got to throw the records out. It is always a tough rivalry,” Kamps said. “A lot of those kids will be taking the (home) field for the last time.”
