The Gillett High School football team will host Wild Rose in the opening round of the WIAA Division 7 playoffs Friday.
Wild Rose (5-4, 3-2 Central Wisconsin-10 Conference) won its final regular season game Friday, defeating Williams Bay 35-14.
The last time Gillett made the playoffs was 2009, when it lost a 29-23 heartbreaker Oct. 31 to Wild Rose on the road. The Tigers were driving when time expired.
Gillett coach Rich Kamps acknowledged it will be a tough game Friday against the same coach, Tyler Caswell, as five years ago.
“We got to win the battle up front,” Kamps said. “They are a well-coached team. It is not going to be an easy game.”
This time, however, Gillett (7-2, 5-2 Marinette & Oconto Conference) has the home-field advantage.
The only common opponent the teams have faced this season was Tigerton/Marion. Gillett won that matchup 49-7 at home. Wild Rose posted a 46-16 win on the road.
Wild Rose relies primarily on its run game, with three productive running backs, paced by Jeremy Lesniak, who leads the Wildcats in scoring.
Game time is 7 p.m.
