Suring High School’s volleyball season came to a close Thursday against Marinette & Oconto Conference rival Niagara in the WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinals.
After losing the first set 25-12, the Eagles were able to take Niagara the distance in two of the next three sets (24-26, 25-20, 24-26).
Senior Brooke Gauthier led the Suring offense with 16 spikes, 14 digs and a service ace. Sophomore Katie Stegeman added 14 spikes, one service ace, one block, one assist and three digs. Senior Mackenzie LaMarre had a team-leading 21 digs. Az VanBellinger had 13 digs, six spikes and one service ace. Sophomore Courtney Heimeral recorded 25 assists, ive digs, one block and a service ace. Senior Breanna Tienor had eight assists, three digs and two service aces. Junior Az VanBellinger had 13 digs, six spikes and a service ace.
The Eagles also lost to Niagara twice during the regular season.
Niagara lost its first match of the season to Newman-Catholic in the sectional final Saturday.
