A new logo adopted by the village of Suring features an easily recognizable landmark, the old state Highway 32 bridge, located in Riverside Memorial Park as part of a wetland nature walk.
The Village Board on Sept. 9 approved a community revitalization plan, which included the new logo.
The logo will be painted on the water tower and displayed on stationery, village vehicles and the village website. The logo was designed by Jacqueline Johnson of Design Art Direction Etc., who provided several images to the village.
According to Village Clerk Carol Heise, the village adopted the logo to portray a better image of the community and emphasize its natural assets: the river, Suring Hill and the all-round natural setting.
She said the bridge image was included because the village wants to integrate the bridge into tourism promotion and event planning.
Suring, located on the 45th parallel, formerly promoted itself as the halfway point between the equator and the North Pole.
The fee to develop the logo was incorporated into an agreement with Short Elliot Hendrickson Inc., an engineering and planning firm from Appleton that helped develop the community revitalization plan for the village. Suring used a community development block grant of $20,000, plus $10,000 of its own funds to develop the plan.
The revitalization plan lists several ways to promote tourism and improve the village with better signage, landscaping, new facilities and enhancements at the parks, historic awareness and improved facades on existing buildings through enforced property maintenance.
The plan also encourages better marketing of the community by using its website and logo.
