Wisconsin had 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending July 12, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. A mostly dry week allowed for hay to be cut in addition to fertilizer and herbicide applications.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 2% very short, 11% short, 79% adequate and 8% surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 2% very short, 13% short, 76% adequate and 9% surplus.
Corn was beginning to silk and condition rated 83% good to excellent, up 1 percentage point from last week.
Soybeans were 42% blooming compared to the 5-year average of 38%. Soybean condition was 78% good to excellent, unchanged from last week.
Oats were 89% headed. Oats were 47% coloring compared to the average of 49%. Oat condition was rated 80% good to excellent, down 1 percentage point from last week. Winter wheat was 89% coloring matching the average. Winter wheat was 5% harvested. Winter wheat condition was 81% good to excellent, up 1 percentage point from last week.
The second cutting of alfalfa hay was 69% complete equal to the average. All hay condition was 78% good to excellent, up 2 percentage points from last week.
Pasture and range condition was 64% good to excellent, down 2 percentage points from last week.
