A dog that was found with gunshot injuries July 15 in the Town of Maple Grove is being treated for its wounds while the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department is looking for information about the dog and who could have hurt it.
The sheriff’s department reported the dog had been found near the area of Cedar Drive and Maple Road. The dog was transported to Specialized Veterinary Care of Shawano for emergency treatment and is currently under the care of the Shawano County Humane Society.
At this time, very little is known about the dog’s history or where it came from prior to being located.
The humane society has named the dog Sunny. Sunny is a brown mixed-breed dog weighing about 35 pounds and is believed to be around 8 years old. Veterinary staff confirmed that Sunny suffered eight gunshot wounds, a broken leg and numerous other traumatic injuries.
Based on the condition of the wounds, the injuries are believed to have occurred about two to four days before Sunny was found. Sunny remains under veterinary supervision and is awaiting medical clearance before undergoing additional procedures.
The sheriff’s department is asking for the public’s assistance as we investigate this case. Sunny was found to have a microchip registered to someone out-of-state. Investigators are working with the humane society to identify previous owners or any shelters that may have cared for Sunny in the past.
