Shawano 8, Medford 2
For every goal Medford scored, Shawano/Bonduel’s boys hockey team responded with four of their own en route to an 8-2 win at the Crawford Center.
Blake Knope scored three goals and Gavin Hundt notched two of his own for the home team.
Trailing 1-0 in the first period, Shawano/Bonduel scored twice before the period ended and twice more in the second period to lead 4-1.
First, Hundt scored with a Blake Swedberg assist at 10:28 to tie the game at 1-1. Then, Knope scored at 14:27 to put his team up 2-1.
At 4:52 in the second period, Waylon Snider scored with an assist from Kielian Armbruster. Knope scored again at 5:55 with assists from Hundt and Jeremy Helmuth.
The Raiders scored their second and final goal just a couple minutes later, but the Hawks answered with four of their own before the period ended.
Swedberg started a trio of quick scores, finding the back of the net at 10:11. Knope’s hat trick came just six seconds later, and Hundt scored again at 11:41 with Knope assisting. Evin Vidal scored the last goal for the Hawks at 15:59.
Neither team scored in the third period, which is not to say it was quiet time. At 9:36, Snider and Medford’s William Harris were both ejected for fighting.
All told, Shawano/Bonduel was called for three infractions for 14 minutes, while Medford was penalized seven times for 22 minutes.
Kaiden Thornborrow recorded 31 saves for Shawano/Bonduel.
